Sisters not Lovers!

By: Sailor Saturngirl

You thought I was talking about Michiru and Haruka, eh? Nope, not at all. I'm talking about two small little characters who go by the lovely names of Sailor Lethe and Sailor Mnemosyne. Now for the confused, Lethe and Mnemosyne appear in Act 17 of the Stars arc in the manga and are somewhat members of the Shadow Galactica aka the Sailor Animamates.

Ever since these two girls made their appearance on the web, an everlasting rumour was circulating around with this is mind: Are Sailors Lethe and Mnemosyne lovers or sisters?

Some say they are lovers because of the pictures that Lethe and Mnemosyne are seen in. A few manga pictures here and there with the two embracing more like lovers then sisters and a nice colored picture where if you look closely, Lethe has her hand placed on Mnemosyne's butt.

Now to the side of people that claim that indeed Lethe and Mnemosyne are sisters. Besides the obvious fact that they look alike, there wasn't much evidence that Lethe and Mnemosyne are sisters.

Then comes along Alex Glover with his handy translations of the Materials Album....

And then comes Sailor Lethe of the Tomb of the Little Known Senshi.

If you read Glover's translations, the kanji reads that Lethe and Mnemosyne are twins, which means that they're sisters. I never brought that into my mind until Sailor Lethe posted a lovely message about it at a mailing list dedicated solely to the Animamates. (http://www.egroups.com/list/slranimamate if any interested parties want to join) I applaud Sailor Lethe for bring that kanji to attention.

I leave you with the following thing that summarizes up this article and it's known as modus ponens.

If the kanji reads "twins" in the Materials album then Lethe and Mnemosyne are sisters. The kanji reads "twins" in the Materials album. Therefore Lethe and Mnemosyne are sisters.
